Urgent and emergency care

If you need urgent or emergency care, we want to make it easier and simpler for you to choose the service you need.

Some injuries and illnesses are very serious or life-threatening and may require emergency care in a hospital setting. Others call for immediate care and attention, but are unlikely to be life-threatening so may not require a trip to A&E. This second type of care is called ‘urgent care’.

We are looking carefully at how people use urgent care services and the skills and facilities that might be required.
